Those of us with a hearing loss often treat the issue as nothing more than just a minor inconvenience. We take an attitude of “I am the one with the hearing loss, why should anyone else be worried about it.” Or worse yet, we say something along the lines of “I hear ok, you just need to stop mumbling and speak clearly.” What we fail to realize, and I was guilty of this myself for a long time, is that our spouse and other communication partners suffer far more than we do. The stress of poor communication has on relationships can be devastating. Often it slowly and slowly gets worse over time until it seems all of the sudden, a once loving and caring couple now seem constantly bitter and angry at each other. Now some may say this is an exaggeration however we see it in our office all the time. Thankfully, we see these problems reversed when the hearing loss is corrected combined with proper communication counseling and frustrated couples become close and loving again.
If any of this sounds familiar, we can help. We do it all the time and it is very rewarding. Come in for your complimentary consultation so we can help you and your spouse navigate proper hearing correction and communication counseling.
